WHAT MY STUDENTS SAY:

Marcia

Jen is an amazing printmaking teacher. She is an excellent communicator, giving clear instructions and explaining techniques. Jen is really great at breaking down the steps that go into printmaking. She is extremely thorough and detailed. I was able to learn and feel comfortable with each step of the process. She gives helpful tips that helped me improve my printmaking skills. I definitely recommend this course!

Elizabeth

For years I’d been hoping to learn block printing but felt it might be too complicated and difficult. Jen made everything easy to understand. She provided all the materials and had everything beautifully organized. Jen has a calming, supportive teaching style and truly addresses diverse learners fluidly. I found myself working on prints fully on my own onwards! I strongly recommend Jen’s course. She is a highly accomplished artist and a very skilled instructor.

Melissa

Taking a class by Jen taught me to think about the positive and negative space and how it can influence the final print. Additionally, she taught us how to properly hold and use the tools to achieve desired effects. Jen’s work encompasses many textures, colors, and patterns. The sheer amount of detail she achieves makes her one of the best artists from whom to learn. I highly recommend her course if you also enjoy these artistic endeavors.

Megan

The Bugs and Botanicals course has been a joy to take part in. Jennifer is a patient and knowledgeable teacher. I went from no block printing experience to building tessellations.

The course content is well paced, increasingly challenging and interspersed with interesting natural history facts. I love that you don’t need to be a talented illustrator - the sketching tutorials are helpful. Jennifer’s art is beautiful and this course gives you access to her approach, style, techniques and thought process.

Sue

The course is very clearly designed and covers all the basics for making the carved blocks. She provides some templates to get everyone started and answers all questions quickly. She is engaged in the private Facebook group which is also very supportive.
The course covers much more than i anticipated for a beginner’s course. I learnt several tips for carving that I didn’t know before and really appreciated her talking through her personal design process. I especially appreciated the videos on sketching as it gave me the confidence to try this myself.

Jen’s voice is calm and encouraging to listen to and her love of Biology is obvious. I have been so inspired by this course and am very grateful I signed up for it.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE COURSE?

You love nature, and you love art! I have been bringing these two disciplines together for decades, as a science illustrator, exhibit designer and nature artist. We can have the best of both worlds!

You would like to try printmaking because it looks so awesome, but feel intimidated. I’ll guide you through introductory steps with loads of details and demos.

Tessellation and geometry are fascinating! From ancient mosaics to M.C. Escher, geometric patterns intrigue our brains. Learn to create tessellations yourself!

You want to get OFF your device and do something creative with your hands. Tired of AI art and non-stop, digital life? Slow down and focus while learning the processes of printmaking. It’s honestly incredibly therapeutic.

I WANT TO LEARN MORE

HEY THERE, I'M JEN
It's great to meet you!

I’m a printmaker, clay artist and science illustrator. I draw inspiration from nature, and share my fascination with flora and fauna through my art. I’m particularly interested in printmaking tributes to unusual and small species.

My educational background is in ecology research, and my true passion is art. I’m happiest when I can combine the disciplines! I’ve taught art to students of all ages, often integrating biological subjects into my lesson, and I find great fulfillment when my students discover that they are in fact, artists!

I live in California, USA, where we’re lucky to access both beautiful coastlines as well as mountain meadows and biodiverse deserts. There is natural inspiration all around us, just waiting to be interpreted as blockprints!

Join my course, and I’ll be right there with you at every step as you embark on your printmaking journey! Sign up for the waiting list today :)
